Obama has been meeting with Republican leaders from Congress over the past few days to try to resolve potential sticking points in his economic stimulus plan. The meetings reportedly did not resolve the differences but both sides came away optimistic. The full House might vote on the bill, called the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, by next Wednesday. Obama has helped to remove pork supported by House Speaker Nanci Pelosi, but Republicans are still concerned that the Act doesn't do enough to help the economy in the right ways.
I feel like the Republicans are finally sacking up and opposing it. But not to would make them look apathetic to the general public. They have nothing to loose. But when this bailout has neglible results like the last...3? I'm not sure they can at least say I told you so.
Do you realize that it is impossible to tell whether the bailouts helped? As far as we're concerned, without the bailouts the economy could be doing twice as bad.
Anyway, we're not supposed to notice the effects for two years or something.
This is the third bailout IIRC.
And without those bailouts we wouldn't be billions more in debt
apprently the govnors want congress to pass the bill already and help us instead of complaining and posturing

IMO this is more about looking like unified opposition to an Obama plan that they hope will fail--thus elevating their party--than actual opposition to the content of the bill.

The House passed the stimulus bill for $819 billion... but without any Republican support. Now the bill has to go through the senate, and then back through both houses after revisions, and will probably be passed within the month.
