Blogs

Blogs are like journals or diaries on the web. They can be about whatever you want, but remember that they're public. They're frequently used to record thoughts on a particular subject, and sometimes on completely random subjects. Often they're started to record the events of a trip or similar. How you use your blog is completely up to you.

The important part of blog entries is the information or story they tell. They are usually in narrative or informational style, and can stand by themselves as an exploration of an idea.

The word "Blog" refers to all of your Blog Entries collectively (also known as Blog Posts), while "Blog Entry" or "Blog Post" refers to an individual entry into your larger blog.

Forums

BabelUp hosts several different forums, which are places to hold conversations. Any registered user can post a "forum topic" which other users can then discuss. Discussions are held by posting comments on a forum topic.

Forum topics are intended to stimulate conversation, and as such the point is generally a question. A forum topic might ask for opinions or clarification on a topic or it might ask for others' experiences. A forum topic is not an essay.

Groups

Groups are just what they sound like: multiple users expressing interest about a single topic. For example, people might join the California group if those people are from California. Users can create groups, join groups, and invite others to join groups. Groups can also be arranged hierarchically: that is, there might be a San Francisco group that is a 'sub-group' of the California group. In addition, content can be posted "into" a group: that is, from the group's homepage it is possible to create other types of content. The group homepage provides a summary of all content that has been posted into that group.

Images

Users can upload images to BabelUp, which can be in .jpg, .gif, or .png format. These can be placed into predefined public galleries, organized into user-created public galleries, and/or attached to posts. When attaching images to posts, users can choose to use an already uploaded image or to upload a new image.
