But the question still remains, is calling for secession pushing the limits of the First Amendment? This case isn't limited to Norris, as there are many secessionist groups in existence throughout the nation(i.e. The Second Vermont Republic, Southern Patriots). As for my opinion, while Norris and other secessionists are covered by the First Amendment, injecting the possibility of secession into the national dialogue is dangerous for the nation. While I believe that the U.S. will always remain one nation, talking openly of seccession will only serve to divide Amercians and make them more distrsutful of the federal government.
