BabelUp: "A world apart" just got closer. The goal of BabelUp.com is to encourage discussion of global issues and foster interest in them, with the hope that this will lead to increased social action and a better world as a result. Many communication tools are available for this purpose, and our educational and service resources are always growing. The highly social aspect of BabelUp makes it a close community of people who care about issues, and it also invites young people who are not yet concerned with issues on a global scale. BabelUp hopes that as this second category begins to explore the rest of the site's features, a conflict or problem will present itself that perturbs and interests them. This new discovery and willingness to take action is assisted by BabelUp's resources, which allow users to immerse themselves in any topic, discuss solutions with people sharing the same concerns, and hopefully do something about the issue. BabelUp's philosophy is that information and discussion breeds solutions and intellectual enlightenment. We've summarized our goal in our Mission Statement: By connecting the world via a large variety of communication tools, BabelUp aims to raise awareness of global issues and encourage discussion about possible solutions. Through these methods, we hope to build a close, socially aware, and socially active community capable of addressing international crises. BabelUp believes that Social Networking + Social Responsibility = Social Action. And Social Action is what we're all about. Of course, if you've made it this far and find that you're just not interested, don't go away yet! Just because we were founded on these principles doesn't mean we slack off on everything that makes a site like this one fun. The main thing that sets BabelUp apart from all the other social action websites out there is its community aspects; it's built around making (and keeping) friends who share the same concerns you do. A host of features are available to our users, from forums and chats to blogs and highly customizable user pages. We hope you'll look around and discover what's available to you, or drop by our forums to say hello. There's a world of possibility out there, and BabelUp hopes to bring it to you! If you're just starting out, take a look at the Why Register page or just go ahead and do it. If you've already registered, you may want to start with the Help pages, visit our forums, or edit your settings. We hope you enjoy your stay! -The BabelUp Team |
